If you operate a cycling club it is important to consider taking out insurance to cover against claims regarding injuries to third-parties, it’s members as well as damage to other people’s property.

While operating safe rides will no doubt be your number one priority, something things do go wrong and blame is placed on the club.

That’s why, by taking out a comprehensive cycling club insurance policy, clubs can continue to enjoy the roads without the worry of having to pay substantial defence costs in the result of a claim against them.

What insurance do you need?

There are a number of risks that cyclists face when out on the road. Ensuring your club has suitable protection in place to cope with the fallout when things don’t go to plan is important. The three main areas of our cycling club insurance policies are as follows:

Public Liability

This aspect of the policy covers the club for both injury to it’s members and other members of the public, as well as property damage caused. If your club is blamed for the injury, perhaps due to taking members on an unsafe route, or for failing to ensure the general safety of a ride, having Public Liability cover in place means that the costs of defending the club in court and any settlement, should you be found liable will be taken care of.

Property damage is also covered under this part of the policy. So if parked cars were damaged by the club whilst on a ride, you could be eligible to claim under this section of your policy.

Employers’ Liability

If you employ any members of staff, whether they are paid or voluntary, you are legally required to take out Employers’ Liability. This will cover you if a member of staff was to injure themselves or suffer property damage as a result of the club’s actions. Like Public Liability, if they opt to sue the club, the defence and settlement costs will be handled by the insurance policy.

Sports Equipment

The most important piece of equipment for cycling clubs is undoubtedly the bikes themselves. If your club possesses it’s own bikes, helmets and other equipment we can add protection to this on your policy. This will include coverage for damage, loss and theft of those vital pieces of equipment.
