Our therapist insurance policy provides the following benefits, some of which come as optional extras: 

Public Liability

You can choose up to £5 million worth of therapist Public Liability to cover you against claims arising from accidental injury to a client or damage to their belongings. 

Equipment Cover

In the event that you break or lose your trading equipment, up to £3,000 of cover can be incorporated into your policy to subsidise the cost of replacing the unusable items.

Professional Indemnity

Professional Indemnity includes protection against claims arising from not only what you do but also the advice you give. This protection means legal costs are covered if someone decided to sue you due to your negligence.

Employer's Liability

If you employ any members of staff it is your legal responsibility to take out Employers’ Liability. This will cover you for £10 million should a staff member sustain bodily injury, illness, disease or medically recognised psychiatric injury whilst working under your employment.

Personal Accident

Accidents at work can cause financial hardship, so by taking out our additional Personal Accident cover, you’re protected if an injury meant you were unable to work for a significant period of time. This includes loss of income as well as a range of other injuries.

Legal Expenses

This optional benefit provides you access to a legal helpline and a counselling service in addition to legal defence costs. The cover can be upgraded further to include employment disputes, property disputes, health and safety disputes and more.

Third Party Property Damage

This covers you against any non-negligent loss or damage to the property of others that you may cause during the period of providing treatments.

Equipment Hire

In the event of a valid claim we will cover the costs of temporary hire of equipment for the time taken for your equipment to be repaired or the claim settled.

Q. How quickly will my documents come?

A. We will issue your insurance certificate immediately after you have paid for your insurance. They will be emailed to you instantly. 

Q. Who underwrites your insurance?

A. Our Therapist Insurance policy is underwritten by Peach Pi.

Q. Do you cover students? 

A. No, our Therapist Insurance policy will only protect those who qualified in their chosen treatments. The qualification must be obtained by an accredited awarding body.

Q. Do you need to see my qualification certificates? 

A. No. You will only need to produce your qualification certificate(s) in the event of a claim. When you purchase your insurance we will ask you to declare that you have a suitable qualification for the activity that you require cover for.

Q. Do you need to see my licence to operate?

A. No. While some therapy treatments will require you to obtain a licence from your local council, we do not require you to show us proof of this. If you’re not sure whether you need a licence to practice your chosen therapy, visit the Gov.UK website.

Q. What qualifications do I need to be eligible for therapist insurance?

A. To obtain therapist insurance with us, you must have current and relevant certificates and/or qualifications for all activities in connection with your business. These qualifications must be obtained through recognised training methods, and remote learning qualifications (e.g. internet-based courses) are also accepted.

Q. Am I covered if I work from home or as a mobile therapist?

A. Yes, our insurance policy covers you whether you work from a fixed location (such as your home) or as a mobile therapist, provided that all necessary risk assessments are carried out at the venues used for your therapy sessions.

Q. Am I covered for online or telephone therapy sessions?

A. Yes, our insurance for therapists covers your professional business activities, including online or telephone therapy, as long as these services are within the scope if your qualifications and business practices.

Q. Am I covered to practice multiple therapies? Do I need separate coverage for each type of therapy I offer?

A. We can cover multiple types of therapies as long as each therapy is declared, and the therapist is qualified for each practice. You do not need separate coverage for each therapy. 

Q. Is there a difference in coverage or cost for part-time vs. full-time therapists?

A. We can cover for both, we do not ask if you’re working full or part-time.

Q. Are there common exclusions or limitations I should be aware of?

A. Yes, please refer to our policy documents for a full list of exclusions, but generally our exclusions include providing treatment to minors without parental consent, the prescriptions or supply of medicines, retroactive cover limitations, and treatments for which you are not qualified. Coverage for abuse, asbestos, communicable diseases, and work-related injuries to employees are also excluded under specific sections. 

Q. Do I need additional insurance if I sell products to my clients?

A. If you sell products as part of your therapy business, you may need product liability coverage, which is typically included in our therapist insurance policy.

Q. Am I covered to work abroad?

A. No, our insurance covers work within the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

Q. What information do I need to provide when applying for therapy insurance?

A. You must provide accurate information about your qualifications, the nature of your therapy practice, and any potential risks associated with your work. This includes answering all questions honestly to ensure the insurance terms are properly tailored to your needs.

Q. How quickly can I get proof of insurance after purchasing a policy?

A. Proof of insurance is typically provided immediately upon the purchase of a policy, often available digitally.

Q. Does this policy cover me for past work (retroactive cover)?

A. Yes, our policy provides retroactive coverage up to two years before the policy start date, provided there has been no break in coverage during those two years and the previous coverage was with us.

Q. Is equipment used in my therapy practice covered under this policy?

A. Yes, equipment and stock used in your therapy practice are covered against accidental loss, damage, or theft, with specific limits and conditions stated in your policy.
