There are many different types of therapy practised in the UK, but all share the same need for comprehensive therapy insurance.
While many therapy and holistic treatments are fairly low risk, having liability insurance in place in case a claim does arise can save huge sums of money.
Our Therapist Insurance provides Professional Liability and Public Liability cover to complementary and alternative therapy practitioners, which means that should you be sued for injury or damage caused to a third party or their property, you would be covered.
Professional Indemnity cover is included as standard with our Therapy Insurance products. This covers you in the event that you are sued for any negligent advice you may be deemed to have given.
What’s included in our therapist insurance?
Our policy includes the following as standard:
- Professional Liability: Protection for claims relating to physical injury or psychological damage deemed to have been caused by your chosen holistic therapy.
- Public Liability: Cover for between £1 million – £5 million for injury or damage to third parties or their property.
- Professional Indemnity: Cover against claims arising from not only what you do but also the advice you give.
Other option benefits include
- Business Equipment cover: All of our therapy insurance products can include up to £5,000 worth of equipment cover, protecting against damage to the tools of your trade.
- Personal Accident cover: Covers you should you get injured whilst carrying out the activities for which you are insured.
How are you protected?
Our insurance for therapists protects practitioners in a variety of ways.
Professional Liability will cover you and your business for any actual or alleged claims of bodily injury arising from any treatment performed by you. Depending on the type of therapy you practice this could be anything from causing an allergic reaction when using oils, injuring a client during a massage or causing mental suffering when practising mediumship or psychotherapy.
Public liability and medical malpractice cover both provide financial protection if you were to be blamed for a physical or even psychological injury or damage to a client or a third party.
Professional indemnity takes this one step further, covering your defence costs even if you have deemed to have been negligent in your business activities.
If someone were to sue your business, your insurance cover means we would take care of the legal fees from defence costs to paying out any related damages.

What is Complimentary and Alternative Therapy?
There are many different forms of complimentary and alternative therapy, with treatments designed to trigger reactions in a person’s body as well as on a spiritual level. These therapies are ultimately tasked with aiding the improvement of physical and mental well-being. The different disciplines of holistic therapy from spiritual healing to massage therapy can be used as a relief for general aches and pains or to provide respite for far more serious issues.
Practitioners work on the principle that everyone has the ability to possess healing powers, it is just about learning how to channel them correctly.
Many complementary therapies stem from long-held beliefs of the cultures in the Far East, India, and other areas all over the world. These include acupuncture and reiki healing, while other treatments are more recent, westernised developments.
