What does our Dog Grooming Insurance policy include?

Dog groomers and those who provide a grooming service to other domestic animals can benefit from full protection with our policy. Protectivity’s Dog Grooming Insurance comes with the following benefits as standard:

This provides you cover should a member of the public be harmed by the actions of your business. This could be because you fail to control a dog in your care or due to operating in unsafe environments, for example. Should you be sued by a third party, we’ll cover the costs of defending you and your business in court. This benefit also includes coverage for damage to property belonging to members of the public.

Should an animal in your care be injured due to your negligence, this benefit will protect you should you be sued. You will be covered for any vet bills that are incurred in treating an injured dog or another animal.

Sometimes injuries can occur and there’s no one to blame. Thankfully, you’re covered if an animal you are grooming is hurt and it’s not your fault. Once again, you’ll be covered for any vet fees.

You may take control of the keys to a client’s house in your business. Our policy provides cover for lost keys, as well as the cost of fixing any locks that are damaged as a result of keys being misplaced.

It’s likely you will use a number of different tools and pieces of equipment in your grooming business. With every policy sold, we include £250 worth of Equipment Cover as standard, protecting you against damage, loss and theft. This benefit is designed to copy things such as scissors, grooming tables, and shampoo, but does not include motor vehicles.

How it works

When you take out our pet grooming insurance policy you are covered to carry out these specific grooming activities:

  • Hand Scissoring
  • Clipping
  • Wash and Blow Dry
  • Hand Stripping
  • De-Shedding
  • Nail Cutting
  • Ear Plucking & Cleaning
  • Anal Gland Expression

With the cover in place you will be protected should you be sued for injury to a person or animal. Vet bills will be covered in the instance of animals, while we’ll also cover the legal fees associated with defending you in court in the result of a claim.

Solicitors will be taken care of by your policy, and if you are found to have been negligent, the settlement will be paid out under your insurance.

Our policies are valid of business operating within the United Kingdom. Should you need cover for activities outside of the UK please call us to discuss your requirements.

Policy extras

All of our Pet Business Insurance policies, regardless of the activities you are undertaking include ‘Close Family Extension’. This means that if you have members of your immediate family helping you out with your pet sitting business, they are covered as standard. As such there is no need to take out Employers’ Liability if you only employ your husband, wife, son, daughter or other close family member.

If you have any other members of staff, Employers’ Liability is a legal requirement. Having this cover in place will protect your business if one of those employees was to suffer an injury and blame, and subsequently sue, your business.

We also allow you to add Personal Accident cover to your policy for a small premium. This means that should you, as the business owner, suffer a serious injury while carrying out your pet sitting activities, you could be eligible for a lump sum payment.
