Residential Care Protection
Care, Custody and Control (Vet Fees)
- Up to £100,000 cover (£25,000 per animal).
- This is a cornerstone for boarding establishments. It covers the cost of veterinary treatment if an animal is injured or becomes ill during their stay. Whether it is an injury sustained in an exercise run or a sudden illness while in their unit, we ensure the animal receives the care they need.
Non-Negligent Cover
- Even in a well‑managed boarding environment, unexpected health issues can occur despite every precaution being taken. This non‑negligent cover is designed to protect your business if a pet becomes ill or injured during their stay through no fault of your facility.
- It helps prioritise the pet’s welfare by supporting veterinary costs arising from accidental injury, sudden illness, or other unforeseen incidents, without automatically assuming negligence on your part.
Travel Expense Reimbursement
- If a pet in your care suffers a serious incident and the owners need to abandon their holiday to return to the UK, we can provide up to £1,000 to reimburse their emergency travel costs.
Premises and Liability Cover
Public Liability
- Up to £10 million cover.
- This protects your kennel business if a member of the public is injured on your premises, or if an animal escapes your facility and causes damage or injury to a third party.
- It is designed to support you if an incident occurs where your business is found legally responsible, helping you manage potential claims and continue operating with confidence.
Loss of Keys
- Up to £10,000 cover.
- If you provide a collection service or hold keys for regular clients, we cover the costs of replacing locks and resetting alarms if those keys are lost or stolen while in your possession.
Loss of Money
- Boarding fees can involve significant cash transactions. We can protect up to £5,000 of your business money against theft or loss while held at your premises, your home, or during transit to the bank.
Protecting Your Facility
Equipment Cover
- £250 included as standard (options to increase up to £30,000).
- Beyond standard fixtures, we protect the essential tools of your trade. This includes specialised cleaning machinery, high-grade agility equipment, temperature monitoring systems, and professional-grade crates or bedding against theft or accidental damage.
Close Family Extension
- Most kennels and catteries are family-run. This extension ensures that those deemed as close family (husband, wife, sons, daughters etc.) are covered under your Public Liability while they are assisting with the daily running of the business, without the immediate need for Employers’ Liability.
Employers’ Liability – up to £10 million
A legal requirement if you employ kennel staff, cleaners, or any other staff to help manage your boarding facility.
Legal Expenses – up to £100,000
Includes a 24-hour helpline to assist with the complexities of running a residential business, including employment law, health and safety regulations, and tax protection.

Protects you if a client claims your professional advice or a failure in your boarding protocols led to a financial loss for them.
Personal Accident
Provides financial support if you are injured on-site and are unable to manage the day-to-day operations of the kennels or cattery
- Dangerous Dogs: We cannot provide cover for dogs or crossbreeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
- Mandatory Licensing: Claims arising if your facility is operating without a valid local authority boarding licence.
- Communicable Diseases: Outbreaks of certain infectious diseases where required preventative measures or vaccinations (such as Kennel Cough) were not in place.
- Pre-existing Conditions: Any medical issues or injuries that an animal was suffering from before they were checked into your facility.
Why do you need kennels and catteries cover?
Your clients have faith that you will take the utmost care of their pets during their time with you. Part of this responsibility is to plan for the unexpected, including when things go wrong.
Specialist kennels and catteries insurance is necessary protection for these unexpected incidents and is sensible preparation in case a claim is made against you, helping you avoid expensive financial losses.
Protects against claims should a member of the public get injured.
A dog in your care causes injury to a member of the public; a customer slips and injures themselves on your business premises; you cause accidental damage to your clients’ property whilst delivering your services.
Ensure that unexpected incidents don’t damage your finances with the right level of public liability cover.
An employee or temporary worker suffers an accident at work.
Your employees may be at risk of accidents or injuries during their work. If employees work for you, employers’ liability is a legal obligation with fines of £2500 per day for failing to comply.
Financial protection from vet expenses.
No one wants anything bad to happen to an animal, but it’s important to be prepared just in case. Imagine if a dog you’re walking suddenly gets into a scuffle and injures another dog. These things can happen unexpectedly, and it’s crucial to be prepared.
Care, Custody, and Control insurance provides coverage for these situations, ensuring that you’re protected if an animal in your care accidentally injures another, needs medical attention, or even in more serious circumstances.
Cover from costly business equipment losses.
Not only could equipment be expensive to replace but any losses could also impact on the service you offer if it’s not available. For example, you may store pet beds and other items which could become damaged in storage.
Equipment cover can protect against costly claims from theft, damage or loss of your items.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Does boarding insurance need to include cover for multiple pets from the same household?
Yes. Boarding insurance typically applies to all animals in your care, custody & control. Your policy provides up to £100,000 cover, with a £25,000 limit for any one animal, so multiple pets from the same household would still be included under these limits.
Are seasonal workers or temporary staff automatically covered under employers’ liability?
Yes. Employers’ Liability (up to £10 million) protects you against claims if staff suffer a work-related injury, whether they are permanent, seasonal, or temporary. You must, however, declare all staff to your insurer to ensure accurate cover.
Should my policy reflect specific breed restrictions set by UK regulations?
Yes. Dogs classified under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (and any updates) are excluded from cover. It is your responsibility to check UK government guidance and ensure your policy reflects these restrictions.
Am I covered for transporting pets in my care to vet appointments?
Yes. Pet Taxi & Transportation is covered, so taking animals to and from a veterinary practice is included within your policy protection, provided you are doing so as part of your insured business activities. This only covers the animal; we do not cover the vehicle they are being transported in.
Are third-party property damages included under my policy?
Yes. Public Liability (up to £10 million) covers third-party claims for injury or damage to their property, because of your business actions.
