What types of insurance do creative workshop organisers need?
Running creative workshops is rewarding, but even with the best preparation, accidents and unexpected events can happen. Having the right insurance helps protect you, your clients, and anyone supporting your sessions, so you can focus on inspiring creativity with confidence.
Here are some common scenarios where cover can make all the difference:
Public liability cover
A participant might trip over a lighting cable during a photography class, or a splash of paint could ruin someone’s clothing.
Public liability insurance covers the cost of accidental injury or property damage that happens during your workshop. It safeguards your finances and reputation while showing clients you take their safety seriously.
Professional indemnity insurance
If a client claims that advice, tuition, or professional services you provided caused them financial loss or damage, professional indemnity insurance helps cover legal and compensation costs.
It protects you from mistakes, errors, or negligence in your professional work, including those made by your employees, provided you also have employers’ liability insurance.
Equipment cover
Your creative tools and materials are the foundation of your workshops. Whether it’s stolen cameras, damaged paints, broken laptops, or lost props, equipment cover helps you replace or repair what’s essential so you can get back to creating without interruption.
Employers’ Liability
If you have assistants, volunteers, or staff helping set up or run your sessions, employers’ liability insurance can cover legal and compensation costs if they’re injured while working for you.
It’s a legal requirement if you employ anyone (even part-time), and it demonstrates that you value and protect your team.
Our experts explain why...
“Creative workshop organisers do more than teach, they inspire ideas, build confidence, and create spaces where others can explore their creativity. Whether you run art sessions, photography classes, or digital design workshops, we understand the time, planning, and passion that go into making each experience meaningful.
Because of that, our insurance is shaped around the realities of running workshops including the equipment you rely on, the people you work with, and the environments you create. From small studio sessions to larger public events, our cover is designed to support the way you work.
Our goal is to give you the confidence to focus on what matters most: inspiring creativity. And with protection that understands your world and adapts as your workshops grow, you can do just that.”

How much does workshop insurance cost?
At Protectivity, policies start at just £4.83 per month.*
The cost of your workshop insurance depends on what you do, where you operate, and the level of cover you need. If you run regular workshops, work with the public, or use specialist equipment, you may need higher cover limits to stay fully protected.
Factors like the type of creative work, and whether you employ helpers or sell products can all affect your premium. You can tailor your policy to your exact needs, so you only pay for what matters. This way, creative workshop insurance is a cost-effective way to protect your business, equipment, and reputation.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Are portable tools covered when I hold workshops at events or client locations?
Yes—portable tools are covered under the Business Equipment section, even when you take them off-site, such as to events or client premises. They’ll be insured up to the limit you select, provided the damage isn’t due to wear and tear and the item is less than three years old if a new-for-old replacement is required.
Whilst holding a workshop, are my tools and equipment protected?
Tools and equipment can be protected if you include Business Equipment cover. This provides up to £25,000 of cover on a new-for-old basis for items under three years old. If your equipment is damaged and can’t be repaired, it will be replaced with an equivalent new item. However damage caused by wear and tear or harm to electronic data is not covered.
Am I covered by public liability if a client or visitor is injured during a workshop?
Yes. Public Liability covers you if a third party—such as a client or visitor—suffers an injury during your workshop and holds you responsible. Depending on the level you choose, you’ll be covered for claims ranging from £1 million to £5 million.
