What does spa insurance cover?
Spa insurance is designed to protect wellness and spa businesses against the practical risks involved in delivering hands-on treatments in a calm, client-focused environment.
It provides essential cover if a client or visitor is injured, their belongings are damaged, or a treatment or product used by your spa leads to a claim. This includes incidents linked to massage, holistic therapies, facials, skincare and aromatherapy treatments.
Your policy can also be extended to protect your staff, premises, specialist equipment, retail products and income. Optional cover is available for employers’ liability, property damage and business interruption, along with protection against money loss, theft and assault-related incidents.
Together, these covers help protect your spa from unexpected claims and financial disruption, allowing you to focus on delivering exceptional wellness experiences.
Make sure you have the correct insurance for your activities, and be sure to check if any exclusions are relevant to what you have planned in the policy documentation.

Why you need spa insurance
Running a spa is about more than creating a relaxing environment — it’s about protecting your clients, therapists, premises and the business you’ve built.
Even with the highest standards of care, unexpected situations can arise. A reaction to aromatherapy oils, a slip in a wet area, or damage to specialist equipment could all result in claims or lost income.
Specialist spa insurance helps protect your business against these risks, giving you confidence that you’re covered if something doesn’t go to plan.
When a treatment or product leads to a claim
Spa and wellness treatments can affect clients in different ways. A client may experience sensitivity, discomfort or believe a treatment or product caused harm.
Professional treatment and product liability cover helps protect your spa if a claim is made, covering legal costs and potential compensation so a single incident doesn’t threaten your livelihood.
When accidents happen at your spa
Spas often involve water, oils, heat and movement — all of which increase the risk of accidents. A slip, fall or damaged personal item could quickly turn into a claim.
Public liability insurance protects your spa if a client or visitor is injured or their property is damaged during their visit.
When your spa space or equipment is damaged
Treatment rooms, relaxation areas and specialist equipment are central to your spa experience. Fire, flood, theft or accidental damage could prevent you from operating.
Property damage and business interruption cover can help repair or replace essential items and protect your income while you recover.
Loss, theft, or damage to equipment.
Your salon space, tools and stock are essential to keeping your business running. Fire, flood, accidental damage or theft could leave you unable to trade and replacing equipment can be expensive.
Property damage cover can help protect your salon’s contents, stock, glass, tenant improvements and equipment, including items used away from the premises.
Protection for your staff in the case of workplace incidents
If you employ therapists or support staff, you’re responsible for their wellbeing at work. An injury or illness linked to employer negligence could result in a claim.
Employers’ liability insurance protects your spa in these situations, while optional cover for money loss, assault and employee dishonesty provides added financial security.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Does my spa insurance cover all the treatments we offer, like massages, facials and body wraps?
Your policy includes professional treatment and product liability cover, which protects you for the treatments you are qualified to carry out—such as massage, facials, body wraps, skincare and holistic therapies. This also includes reactions to oils, creams, aromatherapy products or hands‑on techniques, provided the treatments fall within your insured activities.
What happens if a client has an allergic reaction to spa products or treatments?
If a client experiences a reaction or believes a treatment caused harm, your professional treatment and product liability cover is designed to protect you. It can cover legal costs and compensation if a claim is made, helping ensure a single incident doesn’t disrupt your business.
Are my spa equipment and products covered if they’re damaged or stolen?
Yes—if you include property damage cover. This protects your business contents, such as furniture, treatment beds, specialist equipment, computer hardware and stock like oils, skincare ranges and candles.
You can also add cover for equipment used off-site, glass, tenant improvements and retail goods. Theft, accidental damage and certain other incidents are included, provided security conditions are met.
Do I need separate insurance for my spa’s hydrotherapy pool, sauna or steam room?
Yes, these are not considered business equipment and will need more specialist insurance.
Am I covered if a visiting therapist or contractor causes injury to a client?
Your public liability insurance covers your business activities, but visiting therapists or contractors should have their own insurance for the treatments they provide.
If they are working under your supervision as employees, employers’ liability cover may apply. If they are independent, they must carry their own appropriate liability insurance.
Does my insurance cover damage to clients’ personal belongings while they’re using spa facilities?
Yes. Public liability cover protects you if a client’s personal belongings are damaged due to your business activities—for example, damage caused by oils, water exposure, or an incident in the treatment or changing areas. It does not usually cover unattended belongings unless the loss is linked to your negligence.
Is business interruption insurance included to cover lost income if a flood or fire forces the spa to close temporarily?
Business interruption cover can be added to your policy and helps protect your income following insured property damage such as fire, flood or major building issues. It can cover loss of revenue, increased costs of working and unrecoverable customer payments.
