What does mobile bar insurance cover?

Our insurance for mobile bar vendors offers specialist protection for freelance vendors, mobile food and drink businesses and street food and drink sellers serving hot or cold food, including those operating from catering trailers or market stalls.

With our policy, you’ll benefit from public liability and product liability cover of up to £10 million as standard. It also includes essential protection for your equipment and stock. Optional extras are available, such as employers’ liability if you hire staff, frozen goods cover, loss of money, and catering trailer cover. You can customise your level of cover to suit the scale of your business, ensuring you only pay for what you need.

We understand the need for flexibility in the mobile catering industry. Whether you trade from a fixed location, operate a mobile food business, or manage a team, our policy allows you to choose the cover that best meets your needs. Please note that while we do not provide cover for vans, we can offer insurance for catering trailers.

Make sure you have the correct insurance for your event and be sure to check if any exclusions are relevant to what you have planned in policy documentation.

Why do you need mobile bar insurance?

As a mobile bar operator, your customers rely on you to deliver exceptional drinks and service, whether you’re serving at weddings, festivals, private parties, or regular venues. They trust your expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail to create memorable experiences. However, even with careful preparation, unforeseen incidents can occur. Mobile bar insurance protects professionals like you against potential claims arising from accidents, errors, or unexpected events during your operations — helping you keep your business pouring smoothly and your reputation intact.

From drink and food related issues to equipment damage or accidents involving your staff or customers, catering comes with a variety of risks.

Whatever your catering activities may be, there will always be unique challenges and risks that could impact you and your business. That’s why our policy is fully adaptable, offering tailored cover whether you’re a private chef or freelance caterer, operate a catering trailer, run a food stall, or are catering a one-off event. With the right insurance, you’ll have the peace of mind to focus on delighting your clients and growing your business.

These are some typical examples of when catering insurance is a necessity:

Protection from claims should a client or member of the public get injured.

Protection against claims arising from accidental injury to a customer or third party, or damage to their property. For example, this could include a guest slipping near your bar setup, or accidental damage to a venue’s surface or furniture while serving drinks.

Either way, in the event of incidents like these, you need public liability for catering cover to avoid vulnerability to a substantial compensation claim, as well as other associated costs.

An employee or temporary worker suffers a workplace accident.

Employees may be at risk of accidents or injuries during their work and hold you responsible. If you have employees or hire temporary workers for your bar services, employers’ liability covers you against claims from these incidents, it is a legal obligation with fines of £2500 per day for failing to comply.

A venue requires proof of liability cover.

If you’re contracted to provide a mobile bar for an event, it’s often a requirement to show proof of public liability insurance to the venue or event organiser as part of their risk assessment process.

Your trailer gets damaged on a job

If you operate your bar from a trailer, your trailer is the heart of your business, serving drinks to happy customers. Now imagine something heavy falling on your trailer during an event, causing damage that leaves it unusable. Without insurance, you could face costly repairs, potentially running into thousands of pounds, along with lost income from downtime.

Mobile bar trailer insurance protects you from these unexpected expenses, helping you get back to serving drinks and keeping your events running smoothly without financial stress.

Our experts explain why...

“Running a mobile bar business means transporting valuable equipment to different venues, serving alcohol to the public, and operating in environments you don’t control.

The combination of glassware, expensive bar equipment, alcohol stock, and potentially intoxicated guests creates significant exposure to claims and losses. Damage during transit, theft at events, or liability claims from alcohol-related incidents could prove financially devastating without proper cover. Specialist mobile bar insurance protects your business assets whilst demonstrating professionalism to venues and clients.

How much does mobile bar insurance cost?

Mobile bar insurance starts at just £5.82 for mobile bar liability insurance, including the value of your bar equipment and stock, the types of events you serve at, and whether you operate from a trailer or portable setup.

Adding cover for high value fixtures or a converted horsebox bar will increase costs, as will employers’ liability if you hire staff. However, having insurance in place protects not just your assets but your reputation and earning potential.
