What types of insurance do music teachers need?
Teaching music is incredibly rewarding, but even with the best preparation, unexpected incidents can happen. The right insurance helps protect you, your students, and anyone supporting your sessions, so you can focus on inspiring a love of music with confidence.
Here are common scenarios where cover can make all the difference:
Public Liability for music teachers
A student might trip over an instrument cable, a music stand may fall and damage venue flooring, or someone could strain a muscle during a warm-up exercise.
Public liability insurance covers the cost of accidental injury or property damage that happens during your lessons. It safeguards your finances and reputation while showing students, parents, and venues that you take safety seriously.
Professional indemnity insurance
If a student or parent claims that the advice, tuition, or professional guidance you provided caused them financial loss or harm, professional indemnity insurance helps cover legal and compensation costs.
It protects you from mistakes, errors, or negligence in your professional work, including those made by your employees, provided you also have employers’ liability insurance.
Equipment cover
Your instruments and teaching equipment are likely central to the work you do. Whether it’s a damaged keyboard, broken microphones, faulty amplifiers, or lost recording gear, equipment cover helps you repair or replace the items essential to your lessons. This means you can get back to teaching with minimal interruption.
Employers’ Liability
If you have assistants, accompanists, admin support, or staff helping set up, run lessons, or support workshops, employers’ liability insurance can cover legal and compensation costs if they’re injured while working for you.
It’s a legal requirement if you employ anyone (even part-time or voluntary), and it can also demonstrate that you value and protect your team.
Our experts explain why...
“Music teachers do far more than teach songs or techniques, they nurture confidence, inspire creativity, and help students grow through the joy of learning. Whether you’re guiding beginners through their first notes or preparing advanced students for exams and performances, the work you do makes a lasting impact.
That’s why our insurance for music teachers is shaped around the real risks of working in lesson spaces, rehearsal rooms, schools, and students’ homes. Whether you teach privately, travel between locations, or run a small teaching practice, our cover is designed to support you when you need it most.
Our aim is to give music teachers the reassurance to focus on what matters: sharing their passion and developing their students’ potential, backed by flexible protection that adapts as their teaching journey grows.”
