What does marketing agency insurance cover?
Our insurance for marketing agencies is designed to support small creative teams working in the communications and design industries. From independent studios to agencies delivering client campaigns, whether you’re working solo or employ a small team, this policy gives you the protection you need to focus on delivering great work with confidence.
The core cover includes public liability, with limits of up to £5 million. This protects you against claims of injury or property damage that may arise in the course of your work. It’s straightforward, essential cover that helps you operate securely while putting your energy into your clients and campaigns.
You can also shape your marketing agency policy with optional extras such as professional indemnity, equipment cover, personal accident protection, and legal expenses. Whether you’re meeting clients, producing content on-site, or managing projects remotely, your insurance can grow with your agency’s needs.
Make sure you have the correct insurance for your profession and be sure to check if any exclusions are relevant to what you have planned in policy documentation.

Why do advertising agencies need insurance?
As an agency, your responsibilities extend far beyond producing eye-catching campaigns. You’re often tasked with strategy, content production, media planning, and performance reporting, all areas where clients have high expectations. Despite your best efforts, things don’t always go to plan, and incidents can arise.
Having the right insurance means that if a client challenges your work—whether due to missed deadlines, campaigns that didn’t perform as expected, or advice they claim led to financial loss, you’re supported. Even the most reputable agencies can face claims, and specialist insurance helps protect your reputation, finances, and future growth.
Agency insurance can help protect you in the following situations:
Public liability cover
A client or visitor is injured at your office or studio
Even in creative spaces, accidents happen. If a client trips over equipment during a meeting, you could be held liable.
Public liability insurance can cover the legal and financial consequences of these incidents, including compensation claims.
Professional indemnity insurance
Claims of negligence
If your work contains mistakes or inaccuracies, a client could accuse your agency of negligence.
Professional indemnity cover is designed for this, protecting you against legal defence costs and compensation.
Equipment cover
Your essential tools or devices are stolen or damaged
Cameras, laptops, design suites, and specialist software are critical to your daily operations. If lost or stolen, your workflow could grind to a halt.
Equipment cover ensures you can replace tools quickly and keep projects on track.
Personal accident cover
An employee suffers a workplace accident.
At an advertising agency employees may be at risk from a variety of accidents or injuries during their working day. Suppose an employee trips over some office equipment, resulting in some time off work, they could hold you responsible and raise a claim.
Employers’ liability is a legal obligation with fines of £2500 per day for failing to comply.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Does my policy cover work done by freelancers or subcontractors?
No – it is up to individual freelancers to have their own insurance.
Does my agency insurance cover copyright infringement claims?
No, it is up to you to ensure you do not breach copyright laws. If these are breached by freelancers you outsource to, it will be their responsibility for any repercussions.
Does my equipment stay covered when working remotely or on location?
Yes, but with some conditions. If you add Technical Business Equipment cover and declare the full value of your tools, you’ll be insured when working off-site. However, we can’t cover equipment valued above £25,000, and there are some exclusions—for example, if equipment is left unattended, stored insecurely, or kept in a vehicle without being locked away out of sight. For full details, see Section D: Technical Business Equipment in our policy wording.
Can I insure my agency’s creative equipment, like laptops or cameras?
Yes. You can cover your technical business equipment for up to £25,000 in value. If your equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged, we’ll pay to repair it or replace it as new—provided it’s under 3 years old. For older equipment, we’ll pay its current value, taking into account wear and tear.
Will I be covered if a client questions the quality of my agency’s work?
No. Our insurance excludes claims relating to disputes over the quality or outcome of your creative work. This means issues such as disagreements about campaign performance, client dissatisfaction with creative direction, or alleged shortcomings in deliverables are not covered under this policy.
Does my insurance cover data breaches of client information?
No – we are unable to cover stored data, it is up to you to take necessary steps to avoid data breaches.
Does your insurance cover data stored on my agency’s systems?
No. Our policies exclude cover for loss or damage to electronic data. However, if you add Technical Business Equipment cover, we can protect your physical devices, such as laptops, desktops, and servers, but not the digital files stored on them.
Can you cover agencies with more than 5 employees?
No. Our policies for Employers’ Liability are available for agencies with 5 or fewer employees. This headcount should include everyone you employ directly, unpaid volunteers, and labour-only subcontractors, as well as your directors or principals if you’re a registered company.
My agency offers a wide range of services. Can we still get covered?
Yes. Many creative agencies provide a mix of services that don’t fit neatly into one category, and that’s absolutely fine. You can select multiple trades or professions in your application, and your policy will cover you for all of them. If none of the listed options match exactly what you do, you can choose ‘Other’ and describe your services—we’ll then review and create a bespoke arrangement to reflect your agency’s work.
