What does esport insurance cover?
Our esports event insurance offers tailored protection for individuals and organisations responsible for a one-off esports event, from local gaming tournaments to larger competitive events.
Public liability for esport events and equipment cover are included as standard, with set cover limits. Public liability can cover claims if someone is injured or their property is damaged because of your event, while equipment cover helps protect the kit used to bring it to life. You can increase these limits to suit the size of your event and the value of your equipment.
Suitable for events lasting up to 14 days, the policy also gives you the option to add extras, such as event cancellation, so you can build protection around your event and budget.
Make sure you have the correct insurance for your activties and be sure to check if any exclusions are relevant to what you have planned in policy documentation.

Why do you need esports event cover?
Players and spectators expect a well-organised esports event, where they can focus on the competition and enjoy the atmosphere. But with gaming equipment, cables and busy event spaces, unexpected incidents can happen. An accidental injury or damaged equipment could leave you facing costly claims or losses as the organiser.
You can’t plan for every eventuality, but you can put protection in place that suits your event. It can help protect you against the financial impact of incidents involving participants, visitors or event equipment, giving you greater confidence to focus on delivering a memorable competition.
These scenarios show why insurance is an important part of planning your esports event:
A spectator trips over event equipment.
With power leads, screens and gaming stations around the venue, an attendee could trip over a cable and suffer an injury. Equipment being moved through a busy space could also damage someone’s belongings.
Public liability can help protect you if a player, spectator or other visitor holds you responsible for accidental injury or property damage connected with your esports event.
Your tournament cannot go ahead as planned.
You may have paid venue deposits, booked equipment and arranged suppliers well before the first match. If unforeseen circumstances force you to cancel, postpone or abandon your tournament, you could be left with costs you cannot recover.
Optional event cancellation cover can help protect against these financial losses where the reason for cancellation is covered by your policy.
A monitor is damaged while setting up the gaming area.
Moving, installing and packing away gaming equipment creates opportunities for accidental damage. A monitor could be dropped during setup, or equipment could be knocked over while rearranging tournament stations.
Equipment cover can help with the cost of repairing or replacing insured items you own, hire, lease or borrow. Check that your chosen limit reflects the value of the equipment you need to protect.
A member of your event team is injured during setup.
Your team may be lifting gaming desks, positioning screens or unloading equipment before players arrive. If a member of staff suffers an injury while working and holds you responsible, you could face a compensation claim.
Employers’ liability can help protect against these claims. If you employ staff, you may be legally required to have this cover. Check how temporary workers and volunteers are covered when arranging protection for your event.
Your venue asks for proof of insurance before opening its doors.
Whether you’re hiring a community hall or a dedicated esports venue, the venue may require proof of public liability insurance before your tournament can go ahead.
Arranging cover early helps you meet these requirements. Check the venue’s required liability limit so you can increase your cover if necessary.

How much does esport event insurance cost?
At Protectivity esports event policies start at just £46.46*, for a one-day event organiser.
Esports event insurance can be a relatively small part of your tournament budget, helping protect you against potentially costly claims and damage to valuable gaming equipment.
The cost will depend on the size and duration of your event, the number of attendees and the cover limits you choose. Increasing your public liability or equipment limits, or adding extras such as event cancellation, will affect your premium. If you’re hiring staff or involving volunteers, you may also need employers’ liability cover, which can increase the overall cost.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Am I covered if a tournament is cancelled due to a server outage, cyberattack or technical failure?
Optional event cancellation cover can protect against financial losses if your tournament is cancelled, postponed or interrupted by an insured circumstance beyond your control. However, this does not automatically mean server outages, cyberattacks or technical failures are covered, this will depend on the circumstances.
Does the policy cover damage to or theft of hired gaming equipment, such as PCs, consoles and streaming gear?
Event equipment cover includes £2,500 of protection, with the option to increase this to £50,000. It can reimburse repairs or replacements for insured equipment and includes theft protection where reasonable precautions are taken, plus cover during transit to and from the event.
Does public liability cover apply to both in-person attendees and online-only events?
Public liability provides up to £10 million of protection against claims for injury to third parties or damage to their property, for an in-person esports event.
For an online-only event, public liability does not automatically cover digital risks such as server disruption, data loss or disputes between participants. Explain how your event will operate so the cover can be assessed.
Am I covered for disputes over prize money or tournament results?
The benefits outlined do not include cover for disputes over prize payments, scoring decisions or tournament results. Public liability relates to third-party injury and property damage, rather than disagreements about how a competition is run. Clear tournament rules, prize terms and a process for handling disputes can help organisers manage these issues.
Does the venue require proof of insurance before I can host an esports event?
Your venue may ask for proof of public liability insurance before allowing your event to go ahead. Check its hire agreement for the required cover limit and any other insurance conditions. With public liability options up to £10 million, you can select a level that meets the venue’s requirements.
Does the policy cover volunteers and staff running the event?
Optional employers’ liability provides up to £10 million of protection against claims if an employee suffers a work-related injury and brings a claim against you. Tell us about everyone helping to run your esports event, including tournament administrators, technical staff and volunteers, so we can confirm who can be included. Do not assume that volunteers or external contractors are automatically covered.
Can I insure a one-off event, or do I need an annual policy for a tournament series?
You can arrange one-off event insurance for an individual esports tournament or gaming event. If you are organising a series, consider multi-event insurance, which provides options to cover a series, throughout the year.
