Why do you need small business cover?
Small business insurance is a proactive and responsible approach to managing risks. It not only helps comply with legal requirements but also safeguards your business, employees, and assets, providing the necessary support to navigate unexpected challenges.
Whilst your business may have the best of intention sometime things go wrong. Our specialist Small Business Insurance is designed to protect you against claims that may arise from unexpected incidents. These are some instances where claims might come about:
Protection against claims following public injury.
You need protection against claims arising from accidental injury to a client or damage to their belongings. This could be a client tripping over your equipment, or it could be damage to another persons belongings, such as a piece of furniture. Either way, in the event of an accident like this, you are vulnerable to a substantial compensation claim, as well as other associated costs.
An employee or temporary worker suffers a workplace accident.
Employees may be at risk of accidents or injuries during their work and hold you responsible. If you have employees or hire temporary workers for your catering services, employers’ liability covers you against claims from these incidents, it is a legal obligation with fines of £2500 per day for failing to comply.
Avoid expensive equipment losses.
If you’re activity or service takes you out and about you will likely be taking your equipment with you. There are various incidents where expensive items could be vulnerable to theft, damage or loss. Not only are the replacements expensive but there is the additional costs if you need the equipment to work.
Having suitable equippment protection in place can help cover these incidents, avoiding financial setbacks.

Which types of insurance should I consider for craft fairs?
Public liability insurance is vital cover and is the foundation of any craft fair insurance policy. This protects you if someone is injured or their property is damaged at your stall. Many crafters also opt for product liability insurance to protect against claims arising from items they’ve sold. You might want to consider additional protection for your equipment and stock too.

This depends on your agreement with your subcontractors. Labour-only subcontractors (working under your direction) can be included on your policy of insurance, for work they provide under contract with yourself and your business only and should be included in the total numbers you provide in this application of insurance.
Bona-fide subcontractors (working under their own direction) will have to have their own insurance cover and cannot be included on your insurance policy but you will be obligated to retain proof of their insurance.
